Why keep memories only of beaches in Pornic without discovering its character ?
Pornic and its ria, along the Jade coast, have long gained their strong and good reputation. Beyond its fishing and trading port activities, it was also one of the first seaside resorts, as from the beginning of the 19th century. People were already coming there for the quality of spring waters. The city then quickly developed. Harbour began to spread and very stylish villas along the ledges also appeared. Some famous visitors went there also : Renoir, Flaubert and even Lenine !
Many strolls along the rocky coast and also villas competing with each others with their details and specificities, will give you a vibe of this Belle Epoque period. Various pathways, in particular the ancient customs officers’ path are linking the so many creeks, in an environment which has preserved its treasures. The old fortress overhanging the centre, once occupied by the odd Gilles de Rais, will add to your interest for this area.
This scenery which is firmly grounded has now been enriched with a yacht harbour, a thalassotherapy centre and also a casino yet not losing its identity. You will also be able to check and appreciate its traditional Faiencerie, its delicacies made of strawberries (a beer for example), or its cheese called Nantes ’ Priest (with no strawberry in it though).
