Guerande

On the Guerande Peninsula, you will have reached the White Country which means both sacred and salt country, not so far from the Black Country which is that of Briere marshlands.

Much turmoil since then, including the War of Brittany Succession, the French Revolution… but the ramparts are still standing! The enclosure is well preserved and is now still surrounding the medieval city over 1.4 km, which is a very rare case in France nowadays. Balzac was already pointing out the remarkable feudal character of this city. We will see that small lanes, squares and beautiful dwellings have fully preserved their charms since then. And like in the Middle Ages, many artisans and artists can be found in this town.

When the visit is complete, you will have several options to choose from. But how not to indulge in the region's gastronomy. It will emphasize the local fleur de sel which has great reputation also for its nutritional qualities. You will also be able to taste the samphire, glass eel, or bar in a salt crust, and not to forget the salted butter caramels and salidou. No lack of little boutiques for local shopping before you leave on an excursion to the salt marshes 3km away, or to the Cote d'Amour Coast and beaches (La Baule, La Turballe, Le Pouliguen, Le Croisic…).
