In Clisson near Nantes, you will be perched on the Breton Marchlands, at the edge of Anjou and Poitou. Well in place on this line of fortresses which was delimiting Brittany and France, you will be able to feel the History which grew richer over the ages in some very different environments. The dominating castle is obviously the main witness of all these events. It would have so many stories to tell about what it has heard, from the darkest to the most romantic ones, under dark or clear skies!
Beyond History and medieval atmosphere, alleyways will take you to rivers Sèvre Nantaise and Moine which will then be a suggestion for nice strolls. Painters have already walked back and forth these places. One must admit that nature shows many assets there. During your ride, you will find out why Clisson is also called "the Italian", which is definitely not common when you actually are in Brittany!
Let’s bear in mind that Clisson is actually located at the heart of Nantes’ vineyard. This will allow you to pursue your visit with a wine tasting of Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine or Gros Plant, there in Clisson or in the neighboring villages.
Depending on the time of year you visit, Clisson will have different surprises for you. The Hellfest metal music festival which it hosts one weekend a year in June is surely not the least of these surprises!

How to come to Clisson
- From Nantes train station, on a TER train (15-25 minutes depending on the number of stops ; SNCF time schedule), or on a tram-train (30 minutes). You can also reach Clisson on train from La Roche sur Yon, Cholet, Sables d’Olonne (and sometimes from La Rochelle).
- By car, 30 km away from Nantes (direction to Cholet).

- “Montmartre in Clisson”. Painters, modelers and photographers will invade the village over the weekend searching for their ideal view point. They will take part to a competition and their work will be exposed along the streets on that Sunday. In June.
- Hellfest, in late June. This is the major metal music festival in France (also integrating a bit of punk hardcore). Among many groups having played in Clisson : Metallica, Deep Purple, Guns N'Roses, Deftones, Iron Maiden, Alice in chains, Marilyn Manson, Limp Bizkit, Megadeth, Pleymo, Nightwish...
- Les Italiennes de Clisson. In and off festival directly inspired from Italy and programming music, dance, theatre, street art. Every 2 years in early July.
- Les Médiévales de Clisson. Let's take the opportunity to travel through time and follow medieval streets, in the middle of various shows. The festival is held every other year in July.
- Muscadet New Year, in early December. Local vineyards will invite you for a wine tasting session of this Year's new millesime. Located at the old market hall, it will also be an opportunity to taste local delicacies, all in music.
